Lakeside Lutheran musicians medal at WSMA State Festival

 

Lakeside Lutheran High School announces that all 14 entries involving more than 50 student musicians received first or second place medals at the WSMA State solo/ensemble festival at UW-Whitewater April 30.

Ten of the 14 state-qualifying entries earned gold medals, including the Warrior Percussion Ensemble, comprised of seniors Josiah Eaker and David Wilson, juniors Annika Butzow and Matthew Schumacher, sophomores Skyler Christianson, Sophia Collins, J Doyle, Mitchell Doyle, Emma Guld and Aaron Natvig, and freshmen Tyler Degner, Sean Healy, Javin Hollis, Rebecca Lang, Cole Lauersdorf, Justin Learned, Ryan Preskar, Jonah Rupnow, Dominic Schmidt and Lucas Schneider.

Solos and other ensembles awarded gold included a clarinet duet by sophomore Tim Grant and senior Autumn Tracy; a piano trio by seniors Brittni Jegerlehner, Chynarose Degner and Lydia Ulrich; a piano duet by sophomores Griffin Torgerson and Matthias Winters; a brass quintet by junior Kyle Burger, seniors Eli Lipasti and Paul Grunewald, and sophomores Charlie Pingel and Joseph Grambsch; a piano solo by senior Ashley Kohls; a marimba solo by sophomore Sophia Collins; a flute solo by sophomore Maria Werre; and an alto sax solo and a piano solo by sophomore Ashley Fritz.

Four entries earned second place medals, including the Warrior Swing Choir, comprised of juniors and seniors including Becca Doering, Estrella Tesch, Mindy Meske, Ashley Koltz, Hannah Hoffman, Maddie McKenna, Lillie Johnstone, Jade Wood, Kyle Burger, David Wilson, Derek Gulrud, Elijah Tesch, Jacob Davis, Mark Hoeft, Josh Schoenfeld and Alex Pillard; a piano duet by sophomores Jenna Gaal and Emily Weber; a Music Theater solo by sophomore Emily Weber; and a soprano solo by sophomore Gabrielle Grunewald.

To be eligible for State competition, the musicians were required to perform musical selections at Class A difficulty level, and earn a starred first rating at the WSMA District Festival held in February.
