Lakeside Lutheran will serve as a drop off site for unused bicycles in any condition from Saturday, October 8 to the morning of Monday, October 17. A collection area is established at the northwest corner of the school, available for unassisted drop off by members of area communities.
The collection is held in partnership with a student group from Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, who have partnered with Kapco Metal Stamping Charitable Challenge to help DreamBikes – Milwaukee, a non-profit organization that employs teens from the Girls and Boys Club, giving them a paycheck and real-world business and communication skills. The store not only sells bikes to the community, it also gives bikes to adults and children in need of transportation. Over 200 bikes have been given away already in 2016.
Samantha Huebner, a Lakeside Lutheran 2015 graduate who is part of the college group, shares, “The success stories that have come from DreamBikes is humbling. As our group sees how much of an impact this organization has on these teenagers by giving them an opportunity for a better life, we wanted to give back by holding a bike drive in their name.”
The public is encouraged to bring unused bikes, in any condition, along with spare bike parts or new bike helmets, to the drop off site at the northwest corner of the LL building from October 8-October 17. Individuals can approach the Lakeside Lutheran site most directly via the west end parking lot by entering the Woodland Beach Road driveway and following the signs. Huebner and her group will pick up the bikes on October 17 and deliver them to Dreambikes in Milwaukee.
Dreambikes cannot accept used helmets, tricycles or very small children’s bikes. Lakeside Lutheran is located at 231 Woodland Beach Rd. Lake Mills WI 53551.
