The Lakeside Lutheran High School FFA chapter recently placed first in Wisconsin in The Climate Corporation’s Corn Disease Image Contest and, as a result, received $500.
As part of the national contest, students needed to photograph and correctly identify various corn diseases. They were judged on the quality of the photos as well as correct identification. The Climate Corporation will add contributed images from all around the country to a disease and stress image database that assists farmers with diagnosis and treatment of affected crops.
The chapter has designated the $500 gift card toward the long-range plan of renovating the school’s greenhouse. It needs heat, modified ventilation, new tables to allow for plant watering and ideas to have aquaponics with using gutters on the wall to hydroponically water the plants and have fish nutrients fertilize the plants. The chapter is exploring grant options.
