Lakeside students win German awards

Lakeside Lutheran participated in the annual AATG (American Association for the Teachers of German) state-wide test, which is co-sponsored by the DSSV (German Language and School Society, Inc.) of Milwaukee.  

Of the 13 students who took the listening comprehension and reading test, 7 received special recognition. Students participated in the Level 2, 3 and 4 tests. Their performance is judged by how they performed in comparison to their peers in the state of Wisconsin (percentile rank).

Receiving mention in the “Achievement Level” (scoring in the 50-69th percentile rank) were: Olivia Odrich, Cooper Clark, Jack Egelseer in level 2; Oliver Butler and Dinesh Tadepalli in level 3.  “Bronze Achievement” (scoring in the 70-79th percentile rank) went to Emily Meiller at Level 2; “Silver Achievement” (scoring in the 81-90th percentile rank) went to 4 students, Henry Raemisch and Brendan McKenna at level 2, Isabella Collins at level 3 and Noelle Gates at Level 4.  

Noelle Gates (89th percentile rank) and Brendan McKenna (88th percentile rank) were awarded cash prizes by the DSSV (German Language and School Society, Inc.) of Milwaukee.  This was the 64th annual test sponsored by AATG and DSSV.

Students earn high marks on German test

Students who study German at Lakeside Lutheran High School have received commendations on the results of a recent American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) proficiency exam, administered to 834 students statewide by the DSSV (German Language and School Society, Inc.) of Milwaukee. Eight of the 14 Lakeside students who took the test received recognition on their results.

Recognition was based on the percentile rank at which each student finished in their state chapter. Receiving “Achievement” mention (50-69th percentile rank) were Isabella Collins, Lake Mills; Oliver Butler, Ixonia; Dylan Thurnbauer, Lake Mills; and Ethan Neumann, Oconomowoc (German 2 level) and Hannah Tucek, Lake Mills (German 3 level).

To earn a Gold, Silver or Bronze achievement award on the AATG National German Exam, students must place in the top 30% of test-takers within their respective years of study, from two-four years. Receiving a bronze medal for finishing in the 70th percentile rank (German 2 level) was sophomore Dinesh Tadepalli, Sun Prairie. Two students finished with gold medal recognition by finishing in the 90th percentile rank or higher, including sophomore Gilbert Haw, Lake Mills (90^th, level 2) and junior Noelle Gates, Middleton (92th, level 3).

Students finishing in the 90th percentile rank or higher also a received a cash prize compliments of the DSSV of Milwaukee. The 100-point exam tests oral comprehension, reading and conversational skills as well as German grammar and sentence mechanics. This is the 63rd annual test sponsored by DSSV.

Two students who study German at Lakeside Lutheran High School have received commendations on the results of a recent proficiency exam, administered to 26,235 students from nearly 700 schools nationwide this year by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG).

To earn a Gold, Silver or Bronze achievement award on the AATG National German Exam, students must place in the top 30% of test-takers within their respective years of study, from two-four years. Noelle Gates, a sophomore from Middleton (pictured left), earned a Silver Achievement certificate for scoring in the 80^th-89^th percentile in the Level 2 test. Junior Mary Schallert, Cambridge, received a Bronze Achievement for scoring in the 70^th-79^th percentile in the Level 3 test. The 100-point AATG exam tests oral comprehension, reading and conversational skills as well as German grammar and sentence mechanics.
