The “Warrior Scholarship” was established by the family of Morgan Turnquist, who would have been in the Lakeside Lutheran class of 2014, but died in 2013 after a 14-year battle with brain cancer. Her family emphasized the “warrior” qualities they saw in Morgan. The award reads in part, “Cancer was all Morgan ever knew, but she refused to let it define her. She maintained a positive attitude to the end. She rarely complained about her situation and stayed true to her family and friends and most importantly to her Lord. Morgan struggled most of her life, but never lost sight of her prize.” The scholarship is intended to reward seniors at Lakeside who exemplify this Christian faithfulness and perseverance in the face of struggle.
