Lakeside Lutheran High School recently held its fall sports awards night when coaches recognize efforts of the six fall sports teams as well as all-conference team honorees and athletes of the year. A total of 14 Lakeside Lutheran athletes received first team all-conference spots, 11 achieved second team all-conference, and five earned honorable mention. In addition, two Warriors received Capitol Conference North Athlete of the Year honors in their respective sports.
The Warrior football team has earned a first-time-in-school-history 4th round playoff berth to be played this Friday v. Racine-St. Catherine’s at the Waukesha North High School field. With a 5-0 conference record, they took the Capitol Conference championship. Ten players earned 16 spots on all-conference teams. Senior running back Casey Ponyicsanyi of Lake Mills was awarded Capitol Conference Offensive Player of the Year as well as first team all-conference for offense and defense as inside linebacker. Senior Will DeNoyer of Sun Prairie earned first-team in all three categories, as a wide receiver, outside linebacker and as a specialist. Five other seniors—defensive back Brevin Jegerlehner, d-lineman Charlie Miller, and o-lineman Caleb Raymond, all of Sun Prairie, tight end Cam Paske of Arlington and center Tyler Holzhueter of Waterloo —also earned 1st team honors. Earning 2nd team spots were seniors o-lineman Miller, defensive ends Paske and Raymond, quarterback Jack Monis of Oconomowoc, and inside linebacker Carter Buchta of Ixonia. Sophomore kicker Tersony Vater of Watertown also took second-team honors.
Lakeside girls golf team saw continued success in the program with another third-place finish in the Rock Valley Conference. Sophomore Maya Heckmann of Middleton was again awarded first-team all-conference honors and was honored with Capitol North Golfer of the Year with her 12th place finish at the D2 State tournament. Heckmann and fellow sophomore Ella Butzine of Oconomowoc were awarded “High Honors” as Academic All-State honorees by the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin as a result of their high GPA and participation as varsity golfers this fall. Senior golfer Rebecca Lang, Lake Mills, joined them in this award with an “Honors” achievement.
The 2018 Warrior volleyball team took the regional championship before falling in sectional semi-final play in the WIAA Division 2 state tournament. The team also claimed a sixth straight Capitol Conference North championship this fall with a conference record of 9-1. Six players earned conference awards for their efforts. Senior hitters Ella Collins, Lake Mills, and Kaitlyn Shadoski, Janesville, were elected 1st team all-conference, while junior setter Grace Westrate, Sun Prairie and sophomore libero Kylee Gnabasik, Jefferson, were awarded 2nd team honors. Senior hitter Hannah Willems, Johnson Creek, and sophomore middle hitter Payton Kuepers, Madison, received honorable mention.
The Lakeside Lutheran boys soccer team saw five players receive all-conference awards, including 2nd team honors for senior forward Josh Lindert, Watertown, and freshman midfielder Kyle Main of Juneau. Three received honorable mention, including senior defenders Seth Hackbarth, Lake Mills, and Jackson Stake, Stoughton, along with freshman Nathaniel Krenke of Jefferson.
The Lakeside Lutheran boys cross country team saw junior August Gresens of Sun Prairie earn 1st team all-conference honors, while the girls’ team saw freshman runner Mya Hemling of Beaver Dam earn second-team all-conference honors.
